Storyline Boys on the Side
After breaking up with her girlfriend, a nightclub singer, Jane, answers a personal ad from Robin, a real estate agent with AIDS, seeking a cross-country travel partner. When I saw the movie BOYS ON THE SIDE I fell in love with the soundtrack as well as the movie. I like all the songs on the soundtrack. My favorite part of the movie is when Whoopi Goldberg's character and Mary-Louise Parker's character sing Roy Orbison's song YOU GOT IT.
The difficult emotional scenes in "Boys on the Side" belong to Goldberg and Parker, but it is Barrymore whose spirit somehow draws them together into a family.
Boys on the Side is a collection of mainstream '90s rock dominated by female artists, which is appropriate for the feminist nature of the film. Not all of the music is first-rate, but much of it is, particularly Bonnie Raitt 's cover of Roy Orbison 's "You Got It." Fans of the film will find much to enjoy here, but the record doesn't quite hold together as an individual entity.
